2024 Life Membership Awards and Service Awards
The following recipient was awarded Life Membership to Athletics Waikato Bay of Plenty at the AGM held Sunday 25th August – Malcolm Taylor QSM
Malcolm Taylor – he is one of those people in athletics who has possibly done everything – from a running career – he was a Waikato/Bay of Plenty road race and cross country representative to holding a range of titles at Tauranga Ramblers (Athletics Tauranga) from the 1970s to 2021 although most of them have involved pushing paper, running around marking tracks and setting up high-jump stations. Since he traded in his competitive career for officialdom, the one constant has been his passion, helping nurture generations of talented athletes and being a driving force behind getting an all-weather track in Tauranga. Malcolm is currently involved with Bellevue Club continuing his passion to nurture and young athletes and on the Operations Committee for the Centre holding the Road & Cross Country position.
Malcolm was a volunteer coach at Tauranga Boys’ College for over two decades, helping win a swag of national junior titles. He was the driving force behind the iconic Mount Maunganui King and Queen of the Mountain race and Tauranga Twilight meet for many years.
Malcolm helps and assists in running so many events in the whole region and NZ Championships events. He is always willing to help and is such an invaluable person to have in our Centre.
