About Athletics Waikato Bay of Plenty
Athletics Waikato Bay of Plenty is a Regional Sports Organisation with our focus being the promotion and development of athletics in our region.
Vision: To inspire and nurture a thriving athletics community in Waikato and Bay of Plenty, emphasising participation, competition, and volunteerism.
Mission: To offer opportunities across all athletic levels, fostering talent and participation while promoting collaboration and inclusivity
Our region is large and stretches from the Coromandel through Tauranga to Whakatane, Rotorua, Taupo, the King Country and back up through the entire Waikato including Hamilton, Cambridge, Te Awamutu and beyond.
Our region is supported by three staff, and we have a large group of volunteers across the region and support over 30 clubs and have 3700 registered athletes.
The Centre looks after Athletics Road and Cross Country for tamariki, rangatahi and adult athletes.
About the role
Athletics Waikato Bay of Plenty is seeking an elected board member that will be nominated through our club system. The successful applicant will play an instrumental role in the continued growth and development of athletics in our region.
We are open to applicants from a diverse range of backgrounds and from the across the region, the following skills would be especially helpful to balance our current board and strategic direction:
- General play, active recreation and sport sector knowledge and experience
- Financial and Accounting Expertise
- Communication / Public Relations and Social Media expertise
We are also interested in talking to people who would be interested in being a board observer and standing for the board in August 2026.
Term
The successful candidates will be appointed for a term of three (3)-years.
The Athletics Waikato Bay of Plenty Board meet approximately ten (10) times a year. Most meetings are held virtually with 2 or 3 face to face meetings each year.
You need to be able to attend events or meets from time to time and the expected workload can be up 8- 10 hours a month including the meetings.
Remuneration
This is an unpaid position but expenses will be reimbursed.
