New Incorporated Society Overview
The recent Incorporated Societies Act has implications for many clubs in our centre. One of our board members Bruce Cortesi, has put together a guide and overview of what is required including some helpful tasks that clubs should consider. Whilst the new Act applies from October 2023, clubs have until April 2026 to complete the requirements.
However, this should not be taken lightly as essentially most clubs will have to rewrite their constitutions and reconsider the following:
- Club Rules – which now form your constitution
- Registration process – things to watch out for
- Number of members
- Financial Reporting
- Annual Reporting
- A Disputes Resolution Process
Each club may have to hold up to two Special General Meetings in order to have a new Constitution adopted and accepted which then has to go through the usual legal process to be lodged and registered under the new Act.
We are expecting further guidance shortly from Athletics NZ and Sports NZ and will be forwarding this as soon as we receive this.
Please give consideration to these requirements to allow yourself time over the next two years to implement these changes.
