Outstanding performances were achieved by Waikato-Bay of Plenty athletes on a wet Saturday afternoon at Porritt Stadium. Kristie Baillie ran third leg for the women's 4 x 400 m squad who ran faster than the New Zealand record of 3.35.60, being 0.3 seconds under the 15 year old record. The Squad were also ecstatic to better the Commonwealth Games performance standard of 3.36.50.
Also at the event, Cameron French won a high quality Men's 400m individual event in a new Waikato-Bay of Plenty record of 46.44, eclipsing Callum Taylor's previous mark of 46.55 from 1996. French also achieved the fastest time by a New Zealand athlete in 2014. Joseph Millar ran 46.99 in the same race.
